Compare the features and instructional applications of GIS and GPS tools. How can educators use GIS and GPS tools to enhance student learning?
Geographic Information System (GIS) is done by taking all the data and storing it and then being able to recall it all to display the data in a map. This can be used by a teacher by recording and maintaining large amounts of geographical information produce up-to-date maps, and analysis and comparison of information on different locations. Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide radionavigation system made possible by a bank of 24 satellites and their ground stations. This can be used to find the exact location of something down to feet or inches of where it is. Also great devices to help navigate you around to know where you are wanting to go in an unfamiliar place. I that a GPS is more of a device used to help people outside of the classroom but I do feel that they have made a huge impact on our world and especially for people that have a hard time reading a map or not good with directions.

Your comment brought to mind men that do not like to ask for directions. I guess a GPS would be a good tool for theses type of men!!!
ReplyDeleteKarley, your right about the gps being used more outside of the classroom than in the classroom. Gps systems are especially great for woman because most woman are really bad at giving directions. We usually say "oh by that store" instead of giving street names and etc.
ReplyDeleteThese tools offer a lot of information and benefit us in many ways. It is really amazing how technology has progressed. But the sad thing I see is how these advancements help us and hurt us as the same time. I personally see how it has been a disadvantage for me. I believe that I have allowed myself to become lazy mentally. I don't feel that people are not as sharp as they use to be. But on the other hand when we use these tools we are able to produce quicker and obtain much needed information that would normally take double or triple the time. I see the benefits on how they can be used in the classroom but as someone else stated. They are tools that are better used outside the classroom.
